Everything we make and consume has an impact on our planet and its people, and here at Viking we have felt a growing need to make a positive difference. That is why we started our journey on becoming a climate-positive company in 2020. Our first step towards this goal was to commit to start this transition in 2020. Our next step was when we in 2021 set science-based targets to reduce our own greenhouse gas emissions in line with the Paris Agreement and its purpose to limit the temperature increase to 1.5 degrees. The next step on the journey is to map and reduce emissions in our global supply chain.
We look forward to sharing our journey with you!

Why we have committed to becoming climate positive within 2030
Climate scientists agree that global warming is the biggest issue facing our planet, and that we must reduce our emissions drastically in the next decade. At Viking, this means that we will work to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions throughout our entire value chain, from raw materials and production to transportation, and through the use and reuse of products. Viking collaborates with the Norwegian company CEMAsys, which helps us measure our progress by calculating our greenhouse gas emissions based on the international standard GHG Protocol. We also work based on the Science Based Targets (SBTi) initiative, which sets the framework and requirements for emission cuts in line with the Paris Agreement. By committing to SBTi’s requirements for climate targets, Viking commits to reduce 42% of our total emissions in Scope 1 and 2 by 2030, with 2020 as the base year, and to measure and reduce our emissions in Scope 3.
So, what do we mean by being Climate Positive?
There is not a standardized or agreed-upon definition of what this phrase means yet, so we are defining Climate Positive as meeting our greenhouse gas reduction targets and removing more emissions than we produce. There are a lot of terms out there: climate or carbon-neutral, net-zero, climate positive, carbon-negative/positive.
